It's been a very busy week, so it's been easy not to dwell on the upcoming Anniversary Party. It is shaping up to be pretty cool and we are looking forward to sharing some beer with you (Schlafly's India Brown Ale, for example). If you have not purchased your tickets yet you may be out of luck (I know it's getting close). You can't get in without a ticket and there won't be tickets available at the door, so what are you waiting for anyway?
If you have any news, reviews, info, etc. to share for our next Random Beer Roundup, contact us at hoosierbeergeek@gmail.com.
So, grab your tickets to the Hoosier Beer Geek third anniversary party, this is the Random Beer Roundup.

What's Brewing
Nitwit Wit Beer is now on tap at "The Pub" in Mishawaka. "The Pub" is the taproom for Mishawaka Brewing Company beers. Nitwit has been extremely popular and has a very notable orange aroma and flavor along with a nice balance of coriander and cardamom.
From John at Half Moon Brewery in Kokomo:
Just Released: ODB Wheat Ale
O.G. = 1.061 ABV = 6.1% IBU = 76
This beer is a melding (bastardization?) of two classic styles that will please the adventurous hop lover in each of you. It’s a generously hopped and hearty wheat beer made with red wheat and spicy German hops. A rich wheat character accompanies it’s full body giving way to a dry spiciness created by the early additions
of the hops.
Other Seasonals:
2009 Replicale - German Alt
O.G. = 1.053 ABV = 5.1% IBU = 32
M.I.L.F.-n-Honey-Wheat Ale
O.G. = 1.055 ABV = 5.8% IBU = 15

Chefs and foodies have been pairing food and wine for ages. Syrahs, Pinots, meats, cheeses, fish – we have been educated in reds with meats and whites with chicken and fish. Now, popularity is growing, as the craft brewing industry is booming, in pairing food with beer.

Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager
A few new brews this week. We’ve also started getting in our first cases of Oktoberfests and Pumpkin beers. It will be a few weeks until we put those out for sale, as I feel its just a bit early for them to be in the rotation. Let’s enjoy a bit of summer first.
- Three Floyds Moloko Stout - Baltic Milk Stout named after the famous milk drinks from “A Clockwork Orange.” Highly sought after brew that is in tight supply.
- Three Floyds Gorch Fock - A Franconian Helles Booyakasha. I’ve always been asked why the Floyds would brew a Helles lager? I’m guessing the made it to rack up all the awards that they’ve won with this one. Give it a try, it is one of the best in the style that I have ever had.
- Tilburg’s Dutch Brown Ale - Tilburgs’s Dutch Brown Ale is the only Dutch Brown Ale. It’s Brewed in the village of Tilburg, with age-old brewing techniques.
- Genessee Cream Ale - This is one of those regional favorites that are starting to regain their nationwide distribution. Flavor of a fine ale and the smoothness of a premium lager.
- Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager - Hoss is based on the Märzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with some hints of cherry and dark notes, dominate while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss finishes crisp and dry, and its brilliant red-orange color is a toast to the late-summer sunsets that make the perfect backdrop for this beer.
Distribution News, Reviews, and Gossip
From Greg at Cavalier Distribution:
NEW BEERS
Great Divide Hoss Rye LagerHoss is based on the Märzen lagers of Germany. Rich, layered malt notes, with hints of cherry and dark fruits, dominate, while the unique addition of rye imparts a slightly earthy, spicy character. Hoss is vibrantly red-orange in color, and it features a crisp, dry finish. Hoss weighs in at 6.4% and is the perfect beer for late-summer sunsets.
Two Brothers Moaten Flemish-Style Red AleMoaten (pronounced Mo-Tun & meaning "Friends" in Flemish) is the newest Artisan beer from Two Brothers Brewing Company. It is a collaboration brew between the brothers and Hildegard van Ostaden from Urthel Brewing Company. It's a Flemish-Style Red Ale that's been aged in oak barrels to help promote the wonderfully distinct sharp, fruity, sour and tart flavors. This beer is a one-time release and is extremely limited, so make sure you get yours asap. It will be available both in bottles and on draft on a very limited basis for a short time. Make sure you drink at cellar temp to get all of the funkiness; don't drink it too cold. Enjoy!!
We also have our first wave of fall/autumn seasonals in stock:
Left Hand Oktoberfest is in stock and starting to hit stores and bars around the state now. This is one of the best domestic Oktoberfest style beers available and the first in the market this year, so get it early and often.
Michigan Brewing Co.'s Screamin' Pumpkin disappeared in about 2 weeks last year, so we brought in twice as much this year. Per usual, we have already melted through half already, so it's out there in stores waiting for you now. This is the first Pumpkin out in the market this year...enjoy!!
From the Oldest Brewery in the world comes a traditional German Oktoberfest lager,
Weihenstephaner Festbier. This incredible beer is available now in 6pks in stores across the state.
EVENTS
Stone Brewing Co. night @ Max's Place in Bloomington, next Tuesday 08/18, 5 - 11pm.
The event is featuring both Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale & Imperial Russian Stout on draft along with Arrogant Bastard & Levitation Ale. There will also be live music and of course wonderful atmosphere. Come enjoy some rare Stone Brewing Co. treats, great pizza & good music!
Someone mentioned this before, but why is Old Town Ale House selling Sun King Cream Ale for $6 when Siam Square is selling it for $3?
ReplyDeleteDON'T ROCK THE BOAT, CHRIS.
ReplyDeleteObviously OTAH pours it twice as well as Siam Square. Duh.
I'm guessing that the rent in Fountain Square is a lot cheaper than it is in Fishers.
