Today is International IPA Day

If you keep up with the beer internet, you've probably heard a thing or two about International IPA Day.  Sounds pretty important, right?  Well, sort of.  Here at Hoosier Beer Geek, we're a bunch of cynics.  So when some bloggers got together and decided to make an "International #IPADay" and actually include the Twitter hashtag in the title, it received a big collective eye roll in the secret HBG lair.  Our first question was "How is this an international thing?"  We quickly found the "international" part is because Epic out of New Zealand and Summer Wine from England are participating.  I guess the US plus 2 breweries from other countries is enough to fit the definition of "international," so I can't really take issue there.  Even though it does sort of bother me.

We promptly ignored it because we're curmudgeons and try to avoid internet trends and fads.  We're also hypocrites because we're a blog and we all have twitter and facebook accounts.  When local bars got involved, it was hard to not pay attention.  No matter how much we're disenchanted with the idea of a fabricated holiday to celebrate the most popular craft beer style in America, we have to pay respect to the influx of IPA available at local bars today.  I guess if there's a National Chocolate Cake Day, beer styles may as well have one too.
