We learned today that Barley Island's Broad Ripple location on the corner of Broad Ripple Avenue and College has closed. We thank them for their service and we hope for their continued success at the Noblesville brewery and brewpub.
Not surprised at all, I was just telling someone I was surprised it wasn't gone already.
I really enjoyed going here as they had good beers of their own and solid guest taps, but except for the first time I went when they had recently opened, the place was virtually empty every time I was there regardless of time or day of the week.
I am not saying the staff wasn't nice, but they were lacking in good service techniques. I cannot think of a time we have gone there that they weren't clueless fucks. Nice clueless fucks, but clueless fucks nonetheless.
I also suspect that some of the regulars were a drain on the profit. By that, I mean free beer. You know who you are.
This is really a loss for Broadripple and the craft beer community. For the life of me I can't figure out why nothing succeeds in that location; I have seen a home furnishings/clothing store, the Scholar's Inn Bakehouse, and now B.I. fail in that spot. They should just turn it into a Starbucks and call it a day.
The service and overall experience at the Noblesville location went down hill big time after they opened the Broad Ripple location. Besides a solid beer list, the Broad Ripple location was extremely underwhelming compared to the Noblesville one. Maybe things will improve at the original pub.
Not totally surprised. I liked the food and the beer, but always seemed relatively empty whenever I was in there. Figured it was only a matter of time, sadly. I also don't understand why places fail on that corner; seems like a prime location to me for people who don't want to wander into the craziness of driving on Broad Ripple Ave.
Buck Futter!!!
ReplyDeleteThat really blows. They had the best prices on beer in the city. Perhaps they go hand in hand?
As you know, is this immediate?

Yes, Ryan, the closing is immediate.

Look, they've already closed. Obviously there were issues.
ReplyDeleteNo reason for speculation or to speak poorly about people who probably just lost their jobs.
Too bad. We really liked the place. Always had good service, food, and beer. I would have gone more if we lived a bit closer.

ReplyDeleteHmm... I heard through the grapevine they are reopening under a different owner. :)
ReplyDeleteWith the same beer? Jeff owns the brewery..
ReplyDeleteIn any case, we'll keep an eye out.
