Hoosier Beer Calendar
Events are subject to change

Volunteers Needed:

Hoosier Beer Geek is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Sun King Brewing to stage the first annual CANvitational on Saturday, September 28 at Georgia Street and Pan Am Plaza in downtown Indianapolis. Tickets are on sale at www.canvitational.com.
We are, also, looking for volunteers. Here is what we are looking for...

Festival Set-Up: This shift consists of setting up tables and chairs, hanging signage, building fences and unloading equipment. Setup on Friday, September 27 will start at 10AM and go until 5PM. Watch the forecast, dress appropriately, and remember your sun screen. Volunteers who help with setup on Friday will receive a complimentary ticket to the festival on Saturday. Tickets will be distributed at the end of the Friday shift.

Festival Operations: This shift lasts from 11AM to 6PM on Saturday, September 28 and will require long periods of time in the sun, so please dress appropriately and remember your sun screen. Dinner will be provided during your volunteer shift. We will need additional help before and the festival to help with setup and checking brewers in, and after the festival to perform basic tear-down and help clean up. Festival tasks include gatekeeper (tickets, ID, wristbands, etc.), brewer services (ice, trash, pouring beer, etc.), and festival staff (merchandise table, designated driver area, VIP area, etc.).

Festival Clean-Up: These volunteers will be activated on an as-needed basis. It would occur on Sunday if clean-up is not completed on Saturday.

The shifts include a bit of fun in the form of enjoying the festival's beer and food, but we do expect work to be done. If you are interested, sign up by visiting tinyurl.com/canvitational2013.

Grand Opening festivities will be from noon to 4 on Saturday, September 14th. There will be brewing and wine making demonstrations, prizes, games and home made root beer for the kids.

Great Fermentations opened in 1995 and operates its 8000 square foot main store, warehouse and education center at 5127 East 65th Street in Indianapolis. The shelves of both stores are stocked with barley, hops, yeast, 100 different wine ingredient kits, fermenters, bottles, draft supplies, grape presses, oak barrels, cheese kits, and even new pickle/saurkraut crocks. Owner Anita Johnson says the Avon store will carry the same inventory and offer the same classes as the Indianapolis location. “The Avon store will be a fully stocked, vibrant center for hobbyists. Sun King CANvitational

In 2009, Sun King Brewery brought Indianapolis local beer for the first time since the Indianapolis Brewing Company closed its doors in 1948. On Saturday, Sept. 28, history will be made again when Sun King hosts the inaugural CANvitational, the Midwest’s first-ever canned craft beer festival.

The Sun King CANvitational will bring more than 30 craft breweries representing 16 states to Georgia Street and Pan Am Plaza from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets, available online at www.canvitational.com, are $50 for general admission and $75 for early entry.

Each of the breweries was selected because of the quality of beer they are producing and, as the name of the event suggests, the festival will feature breweries that can their beers. For decades, the beer bottle was seen as the premier container; however, thanks to breweries like those participating in the CANvitational, a canning renaissance has put pint cans, tall boys and the 12 oz. standard back on the map in a whole new light.
In addition to great, canned craft beer, attendees will have plenty of food options for purchase from food trucks that will line Georgia Street, as well as a tent with options from the Omni on Pan Am Plaza. Music will be provided throughout the event by DJ Helicon and DJ Action Jackson.
