An Embarrassment Of Riches

I recently moved from a downtown apartment to a house in Fall Creek Place. This move created a resurgence for Broad Ripple in our eating-out routine, and interestingly, I've noticed a much wider variety of growlers in my fridge these days. It was only a 2.4 mile move, but that has made all the difference in putting Broad Ripple back on the map for growler fills. Out of curiosity, I decided to use Google Maps to measure the distances from my house to growler fills at locations nearby:
2.4 miles - Tomlinson Tap Room
2.6 miles - Rock Bottom
2.8 miles - The Ram
2.9 miles - Sun King Brewing Co.
3.0 miles - Flat 12 Bierwerks
3.1 miles - Upland Tasting Room
4.7 miles - Fountain Square Brewing Co.
5.3 miles - Thr3e Wise Men
5.5 miles - Broad Ripple Brew Pub
NINE.  Nine places to get a fresh growler fill within 10 minutes or so of my house.  That's sort of ridiculous.  Throw in Brugge Brasserie at 5.3 miles -- which doesn't do growlers but figures heavily in our brew pub rotation -- and we're at ten. This is getting embarrassing.  How about we take this one to eleven and throw in Bier Brewery at 7.0 miles?

Stop it, I'm blushing.

Unfortunately, I know not every neighborhood or suburb in Indianapolis is so lucky.  Where do you wish a new brewery or brew pub would open?  There's no love down in Beech Grove.  Shockingly, not a single beer brewed in Carmel.  Most barren might be the west to northwestside, which lacks a brew pub in Zionsville, Eagle Creek, Speedway, or Avon.

Who's most due around here?

  1. Avon's covered by Black Swan and Three Pints in Plainfield, though I wouldn't complain if I didn't have to leave my little burb for good beer! I work downtown, so I hit the wonderful options here on my way home. Anybody complaining about the local options for good beer isn't getting out much. Only if we could get more of it in bottles and cans...

  2. I think Triton Brewing is doing a pretty decent job and should be considered a prime location in about 5 years, once the area in surrounding Ft. Ben starts flourishing. But I'm wish ya Chris! Can't complain about any lack of beer in the city!

  3. Hey, that's BEECH Grove, not Beach Grove!

  4. Thanks Rod -- certainly not much beach down there.

  5. I don't live in the Indy area, but in Ft. Wayne and I just had to comment that I wish Ft. Wayne would get another brewery. You all are so fortunate to have as many beer establishments available to you.
