Random Beer Roundup - The Fifth Year Starts Edition

Hey all! Thanks to those who came out for our 4th anniversary party. We had a great time and hope you did too if you were able to join us. We are also very grateful to everyone who donated their beer and/or time to make the event successful. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Just a few quick notes before we get started this week.

Our friends at Big Car Gallery in Fountain Square are competing to win a grant from the Pepsi Refresh program. When they win, they will be able to utilize a new space in the Murphy Art Building for live shows, art galleries, and other cool stuff including beer events. We would love to see them win and all it takes is a vote from you. Visit http://www.refresheverything.com/bigcar and vote!

We have a few events in the works and next week we will start taking RSVP's for a beer and cheese event at Goose the Market, so keep your calendars open for September 20th!

If there is something coming up that is not listed, we would love to hear about it. News, reviews, info, etc., to share for our next Random Beer Roundup can be submitted to hoosierbeergeek@gmail.com. Don't see your favorite craft beer establishment? Let them know you'd like to see them here! Work for an establishment that serves craft beer? We want to hear from you too!

What's Brewing

From John at Half Moon Brewery in Kokomo:
Half Moon has a Rasperry-Rye Beer and a Double IPA on tap.

Half Moon Raz-Rye Beer
This beer hits you with a sweet raspberry aroma right from the start. It’s light but smooth mouthfeel accompanies the fruity raspberry flavor, and it finishes somewhat dry and spicy from the rye malt. A well balanced fruit beer to finish out the summer days.
O.G.=1.057 ABV=5.9% IBU=15

Skull Splitter Double IPA
The Skull Splitter Double IPA is a hop lover's dream. A big, bold IPA with tons of Magnum, Summit, and Cascade hops to tantalize your taste buds. Careful though! The combination of high alcohol and extreme hops in this one just might split your skull. Enjoy responsibly!
O.G.=1.076 ABV=8.4% IBU=134

From Andrew at Ram Restaurant and Brewery in Indianapolis/Fishers:
Thanks to all who came out for HBG4. The RAM was happy to have their beer involved as well as to be a guest at such a great party. Good times all around!

Speaking of parties, we will be hosting the tapping for our Big Horn Oktoberfest at the Fishers location on Tuesday, September 7th at 6:30 p.m. Our Oktoberfest was brewed in the traditional German style which celebrates a nice marriage between bready and toasty malts with the appropriate dosage of hops to make for a very enjoyable pint (or two). Come on out with us to rejoice over centuries of Bavarian brewing history.

2 beer, or not 2 beer? That is the question.

From Charles at Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington:
Todd Snider will be playing at Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington on Friday, Sept 3rd as part of the Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Series. Joining him on stage will be Dan Baird and Keith Christopher. The concert also features The Elly Maze and TV Mike and the Scarecrows. Doors open at 5, and the music starts at 6pm. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door. Children 12 and under get in free. All proceeds benefit Sycamore Land Trust. We'll have six styles of beer on draught, so come by for an evening of great music, great company, and great beer.

Upland's World Beer Cup Silver Award-winning Oktoberfest Bavarian style lager is now available all over Indy in bottles and on draught.

At the Bar

From Stuart at MacNiven's in Indianapolis:
MacNivens will close at 4:00pm on Saturday, Sept. 4th for our Annual Staff Rawhide Ranch Retreat Weekend. Check Out www.rawhideranchusa.com to see what it's all about!
MacNiven's will be open on Sunday's starting September 12th

From Lauren at Scotty's Brewhouse:
Scottys Brewhouse North Side Indy is now serving Sun King Crabapple Brown!
Scotty's Lakehouse in Geist is now serving Schlafly Kolsch!

Carry Out

From Eric at 21st Amendment Liquors in Broad Ripple:
It's been a good week for new beer in our store. In addition to the numerous Oktoberfests and Pumpkin Ales we now have, there are five beers I'm really excited about.
1.) Bell's Oracle: This is Bell's version of a West Coast DIPA. I've had a couple taster pours and it lives up to the hype.
2.) Bell's Oarsman: The latest addition to Bell's year-round lineup. This is a pale-wheat done with a sour mash process that gives it a tart crisp finish. At 4% ABV it's one to take to the pool and drink all day long.
3.)Sierra Nevada 30 #3: Black Barley Wine made by some of the best brewmasters in the world... enough said.
4.)Founders Nemesis: This is another gem from the people at Founders. They are calling it a Dark Barley wine and I can't wait to try it. Get it while it lasts.
5.)Founders Breakfast Stout: An Oatmeal, chocolate, coffee stout. Founders hits it out of the park again with this one.
Have a great weekend and don't forget we always do a free tasting, Fridays at 5PM.
