Random Beer Roundup - The Sunday Beer Independence Edition

Happy 4th of July! It's a pretty significant weekend in the craft beer community with the long awaited Sunday beer sales finally going into effect. Where will you be getting a growler on Sunday?

Also, on Saturday the Circle City Socialites will be red, white, and bruised at the Scars & Stripes Forever bout at the Forum (9022 East 126th Street, Fishers (IN-37 and 126th Street). Grab an Upland beer and a suicide seat and enjoy the action! Tickets are $10 in advance from your favorite roller girl before Thursday, or $10 in advance at BrownPaperTickets.org and $12 at the door, with a military discount. Doors open at 5 p.m., Junior Roller Derby starts at 6 p.m., and CCS takes the rink at 7 p.m.

If there is something coming up that is not listed, we would love to hear about it. News, reviews, info, etc., to share for our next Random Beer Roundup can be submitted to hoosierbeergeek@gmail.com. Don't see your favorite craft beer establishment? Let them know you'd like to see them here! Work for an establishment that serves craft beer? We want to hear from you too!

What's Brewing

From John at Half Moon Brewing Co. in Kokomo:
On tap as of Thursday, July 1st:

Big Bad India Brown Ale - O.G.-1.068 ABV=6.95% IBU=75

Big Bad India Brown Ale (IBA) is a fantastically rich American-Style Brown Ale made in the tradition of an American-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) with lots and lots of Columbus and Cascade hops. This is a big and bold beer that starts with an aroma filled with chocolaty, roasty, and floral notes, followed by the velvety smooth caramel roast flavor of a delicious brown ale, and a dry hoppy finish. Wow! This one is good, so come and get it while it lasts.

From Greg at Lafayette Brewing Co. in Lafayette:
On tap at LBC this weekend: Ouiatenon Wit Bier; Prophet's Rock Pale Ale; East Side Bitter; Pipers' Pride Scottish Ale; Tippecanoe Common Ale; Eighty-Five; Black Angus Oatmeal Stout; Star City Lager and our newest specialty, Golden Lady IPA.

We will also be hosting our Growler Independence Day Celebration this Sunday, July 4, as we celebrate the legalization of Sunday carry-out sales for Indiana craft brewers. We'll be open from 1 pm to 8 pm with a bunch of great carry-out beer specials, including discounts on our new 1/12th barrels, as well as fantastic in-house food & drink specials and FREE, all ages live music by The Bailout Revival from 2-5 pm. We invite everyone to stay downtown after close to enjoy the fireworks display over the Wabash River. Full details on our celebration are in the attached poster.

From Jerry at Rock Bottom Brewery in Downtown Indianapolis:
Hop Bomb is probably going to go away for a little while sometime next week, so fans might want to come on in before it's gone. However, American Dream IPA will be tapped Thur. July 8th at 6pm, so that should satisfy the hopheads! It's a little lighter in body, so the Amarillo will really shine! Also, please remind everyone coming downtown for the fireworks show on SUNDAY, that they can grab a growler to enjoy with their patriotism!

At the Bar

From Corrie at Goose the Market in Indianapolis:
Paper on the 1st anniversary, cotton on the second, and on the 14th? Stone. Let's all say hoppy anniversary to the classic California brewery and their 14th anniversary Emperial IPA, an intensely hopped, peppery, and deliciously bitter gem(stone).

For once the characters on either shoulder agree. Both the one with the halo and the red one with the tail think it's a good idea to come in and get your Founders' Devil Dancer, an Imperial IPA that's dry-hopped with no less than 10 hop varieties. (Just remember to listen to the one in white when it comes to sharing.)

Set the alarm for 4:45, Brothers. BrewDog is up early with their 5am Saint. They call it iconoclastic and the "The Holy Grail of red ales" before preaching against the sins of false prophet beers and Iscariot ads. Missing this one would make it 8 deadly sins.

Freshly squeezed Hop Juice: just part of the well-balanced breakfast the Two Brothers drank regularly to grow up into big, strong brewers.

  1. Ummm...so when do you think you guys might divulge the agenda for HBG4? That teaser is crazy-making!

Also, I know at least a couple of you had to have gone to the Sun King 1st Anniversary Brewer's Dinner, so where's the write-up? I was bummed to not be able to attend....
