Flat 12 Bierwerks

We have been very keen to let a place get up and running before rendering judgment about a new bar, brewery, or restaurant around town.  Flat 12 will be approaching its one year anniversary this month, and I think they have come into their own in that time frame. Flat 12 makes six house beers and what seems to be an unlimited amount of variations on those beers.  They also brew a huge handful of seasonal beers to go along with those house beers and house variations. Brewers Rob and Josh seem to be able to come up with something new and interesting for any occasion.  This was just showcased with their 12 Beers of Christmas, which showcased twelve different holiday-themed beers with holiday ingredients.

Flat 12 up to this point has been on-premises sales only.  Their tap room is available for pints, growlers, and kegs.  They have their beer all over Indiana as well.  If you follow them on twitter (@flat12bierwerks), there has been some chatter about a bottling line coming in soon as well.

  1. One of my favorites for sure and only local brewery I know of who makes a vanilla porter (such a sucker for it).

  2. I love their porter variations, especially the Tangerine Porter and the Glazed Ham Porter. I really enjoy the Lacto-Matic Milk Stout as well.

  3. It doesn't seem sane that nobody's ranting about Walkabout, so I guess I'll have to do it. This is easily one of the best beers made in Indiana, and the main reason that I bought a kegerator. Yes, I know they didn't make the recipe, but that makes it no less awesome.

    1. Couldn't agree more. The first time I tried Walkabout I commented (after being a "craft beer snob" for at least 10 years) that this was probably the most well balanced Pale Ale that I had ever tried. Currently have it on tap in the basement. :-)

  4. Yeah, Walkabout is a great beer and I love basically every dark beer they've put out.

I really wish they'd tone down Half Cycle. There's probably a great IPA recipe hidden within that beer, but I can't drink more than a half glass of it these days before my tongue says "ENOUGH!" I guess some people love it -- I saw a guy come in and get four growlers filled with it one time.

  5. I thought that Walkabout was the best Replicale at the Microbrewers Festival last summer. Just a damn fine beer.
