A Beer Geek's St. Patrick's Day | Recap from Matt's Beer Blog

We were too lazy to write up a review of the beers we had at our St. Patrick's Day pre-party. Our good friend Matt, however, was not. Read his thoughts here. Thanks to Matt and to our other readers who came out and joined us!

  1. I don't know if you guys had anything to do with it, but I was pleasantly surprised with the prices. I will go back again and again at those price points, because I hadn't been back to Deano's since the New Year's Party, but now I will go back.

  2. We did and didn't have something to do with the prices - when we put together our suggested beer list we specified to Nick that our first concern was keeping pint prices reasonable. We were worried that that wouldn't be possible, but Nick assured us that he'd be able to sell the beer at regular prices (less than $5), so we stuck with our original choices.

I'd say it's pretty unusual to pay more than $5 a pint at Deano's - unless they've got something really rare on, like Hopslam or 90 Minute. I suspect part of the New Year's price increase was fear of lost sales to beer that we gave away at midnight.

In the future, if we throw a party and beer prices might be unusually high, we'll make an attempt to inform the public beforehand. The New Year's thing was as much a surprise to us as it was to everyone else.

  3. We were quite surprised when we paid our tab. We expected it to be more! It was our first time at Deano's and it won't be our last. I really liked how all the Fountain Square people knew each other and late at night, the area feels kind of like a Chicago neighborhood.

Also Peppys is a great place to sober up.

  5. The beer choices for NYE were kegs that cost Deano's alot more and that was part of the huge prices. Normally pint prices at Deano's are just fine

  6. I understand that the beer cost them more for the NYE's party, but when the beer was priced 4 to 5 dollars more a glass than I paid for it just the week before at another beer bar not 3 miles away from Deano's it left a bad feeling with me.

I understand paying more for special beer, but I felt I had my pants pulled down over the price that night.

  7. I've always know the beer prices to be pretty darn good. NYE was an isolated incident, and that was three months ago, and already forgotten.
