Press Release from the Brewers of Indiana Guild...
Tickets are now available for the 19th Annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival, the largest beer festival in Indiana. The event takes place on Saturday, July 19, from 3-7 p.m. at Opti-Park, 780 East 66th Street, on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center in Broad Ripple on Indy’s north side. A portion of ticket sales benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Craft beer fans can purchase general admission tickets--which include a commemorative tasting glass, unlimited beer samples, and 3 p.m. admission--for $40. Early Bird tickets, good for entry at 2 p.m., are available for $15 more. The event is expected to sell out all 6,000 tickets in advance.
All tickets are available at brewersofindianaguild.com, and general admission tickets are for sale beginning today at Indianapolis-area Big Red Liquor stores.
$10 Designated Driver tickets, available online and at the gate the day of the event, are good for free unlimited soft drinks and coffee from Bee Coffee Roasters.
“This year’s event will be better than ever,” said Clay Robinson, President of the Brewers Guild of Indiana and Owner of Sun King Brewing. “80-plus breweries, most from Indiana, will bring more than 200 beers, giving craft beer fans plenty of their favorites and offering tastes of many new brews.”
The event will also feature local food vendors and musicians.
The Brewers of Indiana Guild is enlisting volunteers to help at the event; those interested in volunteering can email BeerVolunteerList@gmail.com for more information.

This year's Microbrewers Festival will take place on July 20. As has become the tradition, Hoosier Beer Geek will be organizing the festival and running the day-of operations. That means we're going to need a lot of help!

All volunteers will work the entire festival, but we'll make sure that you have ample time to enjoy some beer as well. We have a loyal following of repeat volunteers that help us out every festival, so it can't be too bad of a gig!

Microbrewer's Festival 2011 program
The program was shipped off to the printer today, which means it's official! Here's your brewery and beer lineup for the 2011 Microbrewers Festival. Please keep in mind that this list is entirely subject to change based on what beers the breweries show up with on the day of the event.
http://bit.ly/microbrewers11program
Tickets are still available, but every festival we're involved with has exponential sales growth in the last week. A new delivery was made to Crown Liquors at the beginning of the week, so they should have tickets back in stock. Online tickets are still available as well, although VIP is sold out. If you wait until the last minute, you might find yourself without a ticket. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Volunteer Opportunity for the 2011 Microbrewers Festival
If you've been with us awhile, you know that we organize beer festivals for the Brewers of Indiana Guild. That includes recruiting the volunteer crew that makes the entire thing work. We're in the process of building up our largest volunteer crew ever for this year's festival to meet the constantly increasing festival demands and we're looking for some dedicated volunteers to add to our efforts.
Volunteering means that you'll be working the entire festival, and while there will be plenty of opportunity for breaks and drinking, you will need to be there from the beginning to the end. It's also a lot of work. Not particularly hard work, but there is a lot to be done that day and it will surely be incredibly hot out. If you keep those things in mind when deciding to volunteer and still want to, we think that you'll have a great time. Don't believe us? Ask someone who has volunteered before - the majority of our volunteers come back to volunteer for multiple festivals.
With all that said, if you're ready to sign up to volunteer for the 2011 Microbrewers Festival, fill out the form located here - http://bit.ly/inbeerfest11. We'll follow up with you in the coming weeks and hope that you'll join us in making this the best Microbrewers Festival yet!

REMINDER: Microbrewers Festival logo contest
Just a friendly reminder for those of you who are thinking about entering and are procrastinators. Deadline is Friday...
Design Contest and Art Show: Call for Entries
The nonprofit arts organization and gallery, Big Car is teaming up with the Brewers of Indiana Guild and the Hoosier Beer Geek to celebrate great art, design and beer with a logo and poster contest for the 2011 Indiana Microbrewers Festival in Broad Ripple this coming summer. Selected participants will be included in a design and beer show at Big Car Gallery in the Murphy Art Center in Fountain Square on the July 1 First Friday. The winning logo and poster will be used to promote this yearʼs festival, which serves as a fundraiser for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The winning designer or design team also receives four VIP tickets to the 2011 Indiana Microbrewers Festival, four VIP tickets to the 2012 Winterfest, two Indiana Microbrewers Festival T-shirts, two posters, and a selection of gifts from members of the Brewers of Indiana Guild. Designers and illustrators — who are welcome to work in teams — are asked to create and submit a new logo and 11 x 17 poster that celebrates beer and promotes the Indiana Microbrewers Festival in a creative and attractive way. The logo and poster elements will also be used as a newspaper ad and in online advertising, so it is best to make a somewhat flexible design that allows for these secondary uses. The selected logo will also be used on T-shirts and tasting glasses. T-shirts are two-color screen prints. Glasses are a one-color print, usually about 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" in size. Please include either "16th annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival" or "Indiana Microbrewers Festival 2011" in the logos. For the poster, please leave space for multiple sponsor logos (weʼll add those later). Details to include on the poster: 16th annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival presented by Brewers of Indiana Guild and World Class Beverages July 16th, 3-7 p.m. VIP gates at 2 p.m. Indianapolis Art Center & Optimist Park in Broad Ripple www.indianabeerfest.com $50 VIP; $35 General Admission; $10 Designated Driver; available online Deadline: Submit logo and poster files via email as print resolution jpegs (3 megs or smaller per file) by April 1, 2011. Summer 2011 Indiana ReplicAle
The last big hurrah for the Winter 2011 Indiana ReplicAle is this Wednesday (details below). The next ReplicAle event will coincide with the Indiana Microbrewers Festival in Indianapolis on Saturday, July 16th. The Brewers of Indiana Guild are working on the Summer 2011 Indiana ReplicAle recipe.Hoosier Beer Geek wants to know: what beer would YOU like to see the Indiana brewers tackle? The past two ReplicAle recipes have been reproductions of historic Indiana beers. Do you want to see that trend continue? Is there a particular style that you would like to see? What would excite you most and push you to hang out at the ReplicAle tent during the Microbrewers Festival? If you are a homebrewer, do you have a favorite recipe?
Leave a comment if you have any thoughts. We will share them with the festival's organizing committee.

There will be a tapping of Indiana Winter 2011 ReplicAles on Wednesday, February 23rd at 6pm at the Tomlinson Tap Room in the City Market, 222 E. Market Street, Indianapolis. The recipe is a recreation of the Imperial Double Stout that was brewed by the defunct Ackerman’s Brewery in New Albany. Jared Williamson from New Albanian Brewing Company will be on hand to talk about recreating historical beers.
Along with tapping a firkin of New Albanian’s Ackerman’s Imperial Double Stout, other versions will be on tap, including: Broad Ripple Brewpub, Crown Brewing, Great Crescent Brewing Company, People’s Brewing Company, Rock Bottom Brewery and Restaurant – both College Park and Downtown, Sun King Brewing Company, Upland Brewing Company, and other Indiana breweries to be confirmed.
The Indiana ReplicAle program is presented by the Brewers of Indiana Guild with support from Brewers Supply Group and Briess Malt & Ingredients Company.
***
Ackerman’s Imperial Double Stout recipe, as recreated by Jared Williamson and Jess Williams:
Original Gravity: 20 degree Plato
Alcohol By Volume: Circa 8%
International Bittering Units: 35 – 40
Grist Bill: 80% Rahr 2-row Pale Malt
5% Briess Aromatic Malt
5% Briess Dark Chocolate Malt
5% Briess Roast Barley
2.5% Briess 80-degree Caramel Malt
2.5% Briess Cherry Smoked Malt
Hops: Single addition at boil of your choice of hop, to achieve 35 - 40 IBU

Scenes from Microbrewers Festival 2010
We were thoroughly busy with the festival on Saturday, so we didn't have time to cover it as we normally do with beer events. Thankfully, our good friend Nate shot a lot of footage and pictures of the festival for us to use. If you went to the festival on Saturday, I'm sure you'll recognize some of these!

This couple actually met at last year's festival and are now married!
