Open Thread: What was your Beer of the Year?

So after working through every beer we tried in 2011, we made our choice. There were plenty of great options in 2011, with new breweries popping up left and right, as well as new, old, rare, and common selections filling liquor store shelves throughout Indiana. You may have filled out our survey, but we didn't break it down to a beer-by-beer level.

So now we'd like to hear from you. What was your favorite beer in 2011? Leave a comment, and have a happy New Year.

  1. Founder's Breakfast Stout - If that's not perfect then I don't know what is!

  2. Zombie Dust was a good choice, but I've got to go with another Founder's offering - the Devil Dancer 'triple' IPA that I had on tap was highly memorable and quite unlike anything I've had before. I was able to find a 4-pack of bottles and I thought they were nowhere close to the draft.

  3. Alpine Expotential Hopiness! Certainly blows all other West Coast IPAs out of the water, for me the best of 2011 since it was the first time I have had it, waiting to do a side by side with PTY. Founders Breakfast Stout is amazing as well, I have 4 left and can't wait!

  4. FFF Zombie Dust - Best overall, with reasonable access

Lagunitas Sucks - Best out of nowhere beer, should have bought more!

Founders CBS - Best hoarded beer

  5. It's like an Oscar winner, came out right at the end of the year sneaking past all of the other beers throughout the year: Triton's Gingerbread Brown was flipping fantastic. My Beer of the Year.

  6. Brew of my year: Flat 12 Van Pogue off an 1/6 bbl. in an ice bath at Dorman Street. Heavenly.

But, that four day old Dreadnaught we tapped awhile back, here at the restaurant, was un-fuggin' believable. Holy. Never sit on this. Tap it immediately. Your customers will appreciate it tremendously.

  7. Flat 12's Mustache Ride Red, produced as part of their Movember campaign, was just outstanding. Hope to see that one show up periodically in future years.

  8. FFF Vanilla Bean infused Bourbon Barrel aged Dark Lord at the brewpub. If I had first tasted THAT beer, I would have been forever spoiled against every other beer.

  11. Sun King's Johan the Barleywine is my pick!

Timmie Van Winkle was also a great beer experience this year. Hopefully we'll see it released in cans (like Johan) sometime soon.

  12. I am going to have to say either Teddy Beer Kisses from Upland Brewery or Weihenstephaner Korbinian.
