The weekly beer roundup was the first thing I was looking for when I got to work every Friday morning. After moving away for a few years, was disappointed when I came back to Indiana in 2015 and saw the relative lack of activity on the site. But, time goes on, life evolves and new things get in the way.

Thanks for all the work and fun provided, that everyone at HBG contributed through the years!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16102750521333972375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32412760.post-83271032032323167422015-11-09T13:40:30.087-05:002015-11-09T13:40:30.087-05:00Here's how I see it. I, like 80% of all bloggers, killed our online diaries around 2009 when we got distracted by a shiney new thing called Facebook that didn't require nearly as much effort.

But you guys (and gals) kept on keepin on and blogin the good blog as the world changed around you. You guys popped onto the scene as homebrews were turning into microbrews. You saw the microbrews turn into megabrews. And you saw hipsters ruin it all.

Then somewhere between 2010 and today, blogs became unusually cool again. The only logical reason I can surmise is that HBG's blog is the unsung saviour of the blogosphere. You proved that blogs can build bridges between classes, transcend age and sex and even find a place for people with really poor taste in clothing. It's basically everything the internet was built for.

So my hats off to you, HBG. May your mug be eternally full and your friends never far from hand. I review all kinds of beer on Ratebeer, and while my tastes are definitely tipped toward craft brews, I'll give props to or recommend a mega-brewer's "boring" pale lager if it's clean-tasting and generally palatable. Just because it may have rice in the grain bill or be one-dimensional doesn't make it horrible...my lowest scores are reserved for any beer with noxious qualities or off-flavors. After all, brewing to style for a lager is no mean feat.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02713893430389777199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32412760.post-39244638498682590362015-02-25T14:33:15.120-05:002015-02-25T14:33:15.120-05:00I first heard of them as Snarlers. I love amazing combinations of bittering hops, aromatic hops, sweet malt, roasted malt, and interesting ingredients. I love beer that smells as good as it tastes, and finishes as good as it starts. Indiana breweries are all doing amazing things. I love what Flat12 and Sunking are starting, and Founders is doing some amazing things, but I would have to give the crown to 3Floyds. I've been to their brewery twice, and I have never been disappointed by anything that I've had, whether it was their peppery Rabbid Rabbit, their malty altbier, or, and my personal favorite, their 3 brewery compilation, the Blakkr, their in your face black IPA that smells like hop heaven and tastes like fresh hop pellets. They keep doing fantastic things; they're definitely the leader of the pack.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08407658201738820757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32412760.post-7946097989478184852014-05-08T11:03:36.571-04:002014-05-08T11:03:36.571-04:00I think Three Floyd's is the King of Beers.
