Unfortunately, I've not had a Black for quite some time (can Ted or Charlie do something to rectify that problem for me?!?), but both have a somewhat metallic quality to them, both are way too smooth for a dark beer, both have the potential to knock me on my ass fairly quickly. While since this review my preferences have moved toward the hoppier beer, both the Optimator and The Black are fine dark beers, perhaps still my favorites (of the darks).<br /><br />And thanks Mike for calling me Chris M.
