Random Beer Roundup - The Welcome 2011 Edition

Happy New Year!  Hope your holidays were beer filled and spectacular. Next week marks the opening of Indianapolis' newest brewery, Thr3e Wise Men. They are holding VIP openings on Friday and Saturday for those with invites and will be open to the public shortly thereafter.

What else has been going on or is upcoming?  Flat 12 has opened and you can read more about them from Jason here.  We popped the first bottle of (my first) homebrew (a coffee stout collaboration with my friend, Amy C.).  Colts are in the Playoffs.  Bell's Hopslam returns next week.  Bitches Brew meets on Saturday at 1, downtown at Tavern on South, for any interested ladies.  Life is good.

If there is something coming up that is not listed, we would love to hear about it. News, reviews, info, etc., to share for our next Random Beer Roundup can be submitted to hoosierbeergeek@gmail.com. Don't see your favorite craft beer establishment? Let them know you'd like to see them here! Work for an establishment that serves craft beer? We want to hear from you too!

What's Brewing
From Skip at Alcatraz Brewing Co. in Indianapolis:
Announcing a "Name That Beer" contest. I have a Strong Scotch Ale that will be tapped in about a month, but it needs a name. It can be Alcatraz Prison related (like his Conjugal Visit Hefeweizen) or not, but be creative. The winner will win dinner for 2 at The Alcatraz along with other prizes. Please send your ideas to indy@alcatrazbrewing.com

From Roger at New Albanian Brewing Co. in New Albany:
NABC Pizzeria & Public House has gone smokeless.

That's right: As of Monday, January 3, NABC's original Pizzeria & Public
House location (3312 Plaza Drive in New Albany; a.k.a. Sportstime Pizza and Rich O's Public House for the old-timers) is a smoke-free workplace, except for Rauchbier, Smoked Porter and other smoky beer treats.

Gravity Head begins February 25.
From Andrew at Ram Restaurant and Brewery in Indianapolis/Fishers:
$5.99 Growlers in January
A growler from RAM goes perfectly with your NFL playoff games! For January only, both RAM locations are offering $5.99 growler fills all day every day (except Sundays in Fishers – seasonal price may vary). Bigger, Better, Fresher!

On the Horizon
Batch #999 has a name! In Hops We Trust will be an Imperial IPA at 8.5% ABV and 90 IBU’s that is planned for a late February release. Keep an eye out for celebration plans to mark this momentous occasion.
